PUBLIC ASSISTANCE REQUESTED IN 1975 COLD CASE INVESTIGATION

Lee County, Texas - The Lee County Sheriff's Office is providing an update regarding a decades-old cold case involving unidentified human remains discovered in Lee County.
On September 7, 1975, the skeletal remains of a 3 to 5 year old boy were discovered along US-77 in a wooded area near a roadside park located five miles south of Giddings, Texas. The child was wrapped in a bed sheet, Canon brand, with a multi-colored floral pattern. Then, he was enclosed in two dark green trash bags secured with bailing wire. He had straight dark brown hair about four inches long. The child was wearing a shirt and pants like the image which were both Buster Brown brand. Investigators believed the child died approximately two months prior to discovery. Despite investigative efforts at the time, the identity of the child was never determined, and the case remained unresolved for many years.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office reopened the investigation as part of an ongoing effort to review and pursue cold cases with modern investigative resources and technology. As part of this renewed effort, investigators partnered with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). Through that partnership, a forensic artist with NCMEC has created a facial approximation that may represent what the child looked like in life.

This facial reconstruction has now been released in hopes that someone may recognize the child and help investigators finally identify the victim.
Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger stated, "This child has remained unidentified for nearly fifty years. Our goal is to restore this child's identity and bring answers to any surviving family members. We are asking the public to review the facial approximation and contact us if they recognize anything that may assist investigators."
Anyone who may have information related to this case, or who recognizes the facial approximation, is encouraged to contact the Lee County Sheriff's Office at 979-542-2800. Tips may also be submitted through the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office remains committed to pursuing justice and answers in this case, regardless of the time that has passed.
