Lee County, Texas - With Lee County schools set to resume in the coming weeks, the Lee County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division is gearing up to provide highly visible presence at all of our public and private schools.

Deputies will be conducting stationary radar, as well as laser radar enforcement in the various school zones. Deputies will also conduct random school bus route patrols to ensure that motorists are yielding for buses that are loading/unloading children.

"Our goal is to supplement the work of our law enforcement partners, to keep our school zones and bus routes as safe as possible. We have a zero-tolerance policy for any traffic violations, which means speeding and failing to yield to a school bus with lights flashing will result in a citation."

"Even though we can't follow every bus in the county, we have been very successful in obtaining video footage from school buses that record the vehicles that fail to yield. We conduct an investigation and follow-up to issue citations. We won't take school safety lightly."

Sheriff Durrenberger will also host an upcoming biannual Sheriff's School Safety Meeting, where all of our county school administrators, law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel meet to plan and make sure we are on the cutting edge of school safety. These meetings are held in accordance with State law.
