DISTURBANCE RESULTS IN ARREST FOR POSSESSION
On May 4, 2025 at approximately 3:28pm, the Lee County Sheriff's Office received a complaint about a male and female involved in a physical altercation at an address on County Road 127. Deputies responded to the residence and made contact with the involved parties.
While separating parties, Christer Mathis began walking away from Deputies while repeatedly being told not to do so. One of the Deputies observed Mr. Mathis walk around the side of his vehicle and reach into his pockets. The Deputy quickly caught up to Mr. Mathis and observed Mr. Mathis attempting to place a prescription bottle into a vehicle. The Deputy confiscated the bottle and placed Mr. Mathis into handcuffs.
Upon examining the prescription bottle, the contents were discovered to be crack cocaine. A narcotics test kit revealed a positive reaction for cocaine as well. It was further determined the altercation had not been physical and therefore Mr. and Mrs. Mathis were not charged with assault. Christer Mathis of Ledbetter was subsequently arrested for Possession of Controlled Substance and booked into the Lee County Jail.
