Three Arrested in Burglaries

**PRESS RELEASE**

 

On Friday, May 12, 2023, at approximately 0512 hours, the Lee County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a property owner who was out of town. The property owner stated his security camera was showing three subjects on his property. Sergeant Holloway responded to the location on County Road 127 near FM 180 and positioned himself to observe the entrance to the property awaiting backup. Deputy J. Hilmo arrived on scene and at 0542 hours, the suspects pull up on an ATV taken from the property. Sergeant Holloway and Deputy Hilmo engage the suspects at which time the suspects displayed a weapon, shots were fired, and the suspects fled the scene in a red passenger car.

A short pursuit ensued before the vehicle came to a stop with a flat right front tire. The driver fled the scene, and the passenger was apprehended. A perimeter was established, and the additional two suspects were apprehended. As of the time of this press release, several homes were found to have been burglarized in the area. A firearm which was seized was found to have been stolen from Washington County. The Lee County Sheriff's office is working with the Washington County Sheriff's Office as the investigation is ongoing.

The suspects, all who are from Navasota, were identified as:

Gregory Chatman II, 28 years of age

Desnick Chatman, 25 years of age

Lucius Byrd, 19 years of age

 

The Lee County Sheriff's Office would like to express its appreciation to the Lee County citizens who called with information which helped in apprehending the three suspects. The Lee County Sheriff's would also like to express its appreciation to Constable Billy Stephens, Constable AJ Gonzales, the Texas Highway Patrol, and the Washington County Sheriff's Office for their assistance.
